2019 Winter Tour

This September marked the beginning of postgraduate study for Alex, Lynn and Ben. Alex and Lynn moved to London to start at the Royal Academy of Music, while Ben started at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. This lead to a couple of months off for the ensemble, however cogs were still turning and our annual tour took shape.

The tour took place over the last week, bookended with carol services in London on the 15th, and in Cardiff on the 21st. We played in a variety of settings and locations including London, Bristol, Newport and Cardiff.

A major aspect of our work in general is outreach, and we find our work in hospitals goes down particularly well during the festive period. We filled our regular slot at the Cossham and Southmead hospitals in Bristol, on the dialysis ward, and in communal areas. While this was arranged through Live Music Now (as most of our work in this vein is), we also collaborated with Gwent Arts in Health to put on some performances at St Woolos Hospital. Finally, we worked with Touch Trust, a charity based in Cardiff Bay for the first time. They provide unique creative movement programmes for individuals with learning disabilities, those affected by autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), complex needs, behaviour which challenges, and other vulnerable groups in the community.

On Saturday we played a concert in Rhiwbina in aid of Live Music Now, which had a great turn out despite the horrible weather! We were able to raise £220 for the charity and had a great time doing it!

Finally, we played for many different carol services- the main duty of brass players at Christmas! It was great to return to the Lisvane Sip'n'Sing, which is always great fun, and play for the first time at Llandaff Cathedral for the Cathedral Choir's Christmas Concert.

That's it until 2020 for us, thank you to Live Music Now, Sarah Goodey and Gwent Arts in Health, Laura Tanner and the North Bristol NHS Trust, and especially to Toby Carr being our star dep for the week! Please check out the pictures and videos below.
