It's been a busy weekend for the group, and we're looking forward to taking a break before our rehearsal period for our upcoming tour! Here's what we've been up to:
Filming for S4C @ RWCMD
On Friday we invaded the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama's Linbury Gallery, to feature on S4C's children program, Jambori. We began by filming a section featuring us playing hide and seek with the camera, and giving away our location through playing our instruments. After we got over the embarrassment of doing this in front of all our peers (who were coming and going through the Gallery), we started to enjoy it, and Will even managed to sneak the opening to Mahler 5 into his slot. We also played an arrangement of the William Tell Overture, and Nick treated us to a performance of 'The Acrobat', everyone's favourite trombone solo!
Recital @ Newport Cathedral
The next day, we packed Alex's car and made our way to the beautiful Newport Cathedral, where we performed a lunchtime recital. The programme served as a bridge between our engagements this term- Battle Suite by Scheidt, Fancies, Toyes and Dreames by Farnaby and Dance Suite by Bernstein from our recordings for the Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition, paired with Ewald's First Quintet, Fanfare for St Edmundsbury, and again Dance Suite by Bernstein for our Christmas Tour. We were treated wonderfully by the team at the Cathedral, and enjoyed an excellent turn out, many of whom we had the pleasure of meeting after. We look forward to returning some day!
Keep an eye out for more blog updates in coming weeks- Lynn has lots to tell us about her trip to Sri Lanka as guest principal horn of the National Orchestra, and we'll soon be announcing the details of our upcoming tour.
