Brass Quintet! (29 of 79).jpg

Blackweir Brass is an award-winning brass quintet, operating across the UK. As an ensemble, they pride themselves on the flexibility of the services they can provide, which vary from recitals, to outreach, to private engagements.

The quintet was formed in 2016 at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, which remained their base for three years. This period was formative in many ways and involved many hours of coaching and rehearsal at the college, backed up by comprehensive training in delivering outreach from Live Music Now. 2017 contained two important events that changed the direction of the group artistically: premiering the 'Music and Words' recital at the Wantage Betjeman Literary Festival, and the first Christmas tour. The Music and Words programme has proved very popular with audiences and has been developed into a central component of the ensemble's work. The Christmas tour has become an annual fixture in the quintet's diary, expanding each year.

In July of 2019, the ensemble's members graduated and spread across the country,  studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, as well as freelancing with bases in London, Birmingham and Cardiff. This means that performances now take place across the UK, and are less isolated to South Wales, leading to many new and exciting opportunities!
